For the many of us who use Google Maps on a daily basis, whether we’re driving through the day, navigating public transportation, or walking unfamiliar streets, we know that Google Maps helps us reach our destination in the most efficient way. As a result of Google Maps’ growing popularity, it has become crucial for businesses to register with Google Maps.

Google Maps uses Google Places, a service that allows you to list your business’ location information on Google Maps. Once listed, your business becomes visible and searchable on Google. If your business has a strong online presence, interested customers will find it much easier to locate your business that they will hopefully visit, and most probably use Google Maps to find.

Google Places’ focus on local searches makes it easier for customers to find you. A real life example would be something like this- Let’s say you own a sporting goods store, and someone in your area is in need of a new pair of tennis shoes. This potential customer would search “tennis shoes” in Google, and he or she would only be presented with relevant local businesses that are registered on Google Maps.

If you’re a business owner and not yet on Google Maps, remember that it’s a free and very effective local marketing tool that will literally put you on the map. Visit Google.com/business to register your business today.
